Hiking

Nozawa Onsen offers some great hiking trails for all fitness levels. Take a stroll through the rice fields, up the Hikage ski slope, Olympic park or to Ogama the local cooking Onsen to watch the locals cook their Vegetables and Onsen Eggs. If you are up for a challenge hike Mt. Kenashi, Kosuge Shrine or nearby Hokuryuko Lake. We are happy to show you some of the trail entrances and how to navigate through the wonderful green nature around Nozawa Onsen.

Mountain Bike

Nozawa Onsen offers some of the best Mountain Biking in Japan. There is great downhill and single trails in and around Nozawa Onsen. Go and explore for yourself or book one of our recommended guides to take you through the Japanese forest and show you some of the secret spots around. SUP on the Lake

Take one of the Standup paddles and glide over nearby Hokuryuko lake. We can organise tours or go and paddle on your own. Very refreshing mountain water for a swim during the afternoon heat and great with kids too…

Rice fields

Take a walk through the Nozawa Onsen Rice fields and talk to some of the local famers who are happy to show you their traditional rice harvesting technique. Planting of the seeds starts in early May after all the snow has melted and the rice harvest usually happens sometime in September.

Golf

There are more than five great 18 hole courses in 40 minute reach of Nozawa Onsen. Set in beautiful mountain nature all courses have fantastic views and are extremely visitor friendly. Having your own cart, beer out of the wending machine on course and an Onsen to finish off on the 19th hole are only a few benefits when playing Golf in Japan. Visitors pay around 5000 Yen for a 18 hole round on average. Golf clubs can be rented.

Nozawa Spa Arena

Great outdoor and indoor facility in summer and winter. During the hot summer month its great for families with kids to cool the little monsters down and burn their energy. On most days it feels like a private pool especially during the week where there is almost nobody in sight. There is a great restaurant deck upstairs with fantastic sunset views, cool beer and good food. Entry fee is 700 Yen for adults and half price for kids.

Road Cycling

Not sure if it gets much better than cycling through the hills and mountains of Nozawa Onsen. The local back roads are perfect for road cycling. You can choose from easy and flat or hard and steep. Cruise along the nearby Chikuma River for an easy Sunday ride or challenge the top of Mt. Kenashi and get your T-Shirt sweaty. We have done lots cylcling in the area and can either guide you or show you on the map to find your personal road cycling day tour.

River Swim

Nozawa Onsen and its area has many great swimming options. Hop of your SUP into the nearby Hokoryuko Lake or we can show you some of our favourite river accesses in the area. Great to cool down during the hot summer month as the water temperature even in mid summer stays nice and fresh.

Lake Nojiriko

Want to Paddle of this beautiful lake or take a nice dip? No problem from Nozawa Onsen its less than 40 Minutes to get there and a beautiful day trip. Lake Nojiriko has a lot of water sport options from swimming over kayaking, banana boat and even Wakeboarding. We can take you there or you can go on your own and experience a great day out on the lake.
