Our favourite restaurants:

For a small mountain town Nozawa Onsen offers a lot of great little restaurants. Most restaurants are small, family run restaurants with great food and homely atmosphere. Try some of our favourites.

Izakaiya Sakai
One of our all time favourites. The restaurant has come into the years so have their owners. The food still stands out though and you can enjoy real authentic Japanese Izakaiya food. Grilled Makerel (Called Hokke), Local Tofu produced next door (Agedashi Tofu), Curry Liver or Chicken skewers just some of our favourites next to the Local Sake selection.

Tsukushinbo Izakaiya
Another great local restaurant where you get some great sashimi and basashi (raw horse meat) amongst other local specialities. Try out their home made Chu-Hi Grapefruit (Shochu based alcoholic beverage) to get you going for the night.

Kazenoie Italian Restaurant
Yoshi and his wife Atsuko are great friends of us and do real authentic Italian food. Try the Gorgonzola Rigatoni, Avocado Salad, Tomato Bruschetta or even the beautiful lamb chops. Please be aware that all meals are freshly prepared and service can take its time. Order as a group not per person as meals will fly out of the kitchen in random order. Table reservation recommended.

Wakagiri
Great family restaurant in the heart of Nozawa Onsen. Not many places where you can get real good Sushi, Ramen, Udon and a Kazudon all under one roof. Wakagiri has a huge menu and is most popular with families. Our favourite at lunch. Tsukedon. Raw tuna on vinegared rice. Oishiiii...

Kongou Food Market
Great place in summer to hang out and enjoy great food together with an ice cold brew. You can get one of the best soba buckwheat noodles in town from the owner himself Yamazaki san, try a lovely sausage roll from Darren which originates from the Gong or treat yourself to authentic Thai cuisine. There are five vendors at Kongou all serving different style food. The place is big and you should get in on most nights without a reservation.  Popular with families.

Heaven Bar
Great bar and friendly owners in the center of town. Great selection of cocktails. They also have private Karaoke rooms if you want to belt out some songs with your friends.
